Athlete Blogs - Ka'Deem Wynn: Going For The Wynn (Update #1)

Hey DyeStat Florida crew! Ka'Deem here! Most of you know that I'm a contributing writer and reporter for DyeStat Florida, but while I'm writing about the sport I love and the people in it, I'm also living it.

Up to this point, I've been grinding it out on the track, as well as in school, studying for SAT's and ACT's, and all of the other fun stuff that comes with junior year. I've been looking at colleges for quite some time now, and it's time to start narrowing down my options, though there's still a small amount of time to continue searching. When I'm not running and working, I look to take the ACT and retake the SAT to get my scores higher. I may be a decent runner, but grades and test scores count as well.

However, with all of this searching, studying, and filling out questionares, my brain tends to get a little fried. So what do I do? I put some shoes on, and I start running.

It's hard to believe, but I'm now a senior at Flagler Palm Coast High School, and I'm getting ready to start my fourth and final cross country season with the Bulldogs.

I ended last week with a total of 35.36 miles, doing a range of five to nine miles. Much like I did after last cross country season, I look to be averaging nine to twelve miles per long run, if not a little more.

However, I must take small steps before I get back into that kind of shape (which I argue is when I feel like I'm in the best shape of my life).

Monday marked the first real week of my training for the upcoming season this fall. Last week was my return week, getting my distance legs back from taking a week off after running at Golden South. I had a few small workouts that my coach gave me to get back into the groove of things, but mainly I've been rebuilding my base, getting some good base mileage.

On Monday, my teammates and I ran sand hills. It was, as coach Halliday says, "Quad City." After we finished with the hills, it was off for a 50-minute run. However, since I tend to bike everywhere because it's my main way of transportation, I got the real definition of Quad City when I biked a total of 18 miles biked after that (nine miles from my house to sand hills, nine back). The good thing though is that my coach told me that all of this biking that I've been doing has not only helped make my legs stronger, but it's going to make a difference when we get into the longer workouts, which in the past I've done alright at.

Sand Hills, Palm Coast

Then after that, I was luck enough to go to work after that.

That's all I have for this week! I hope you all enjoyed reading my first entry, and know that I will be making more each week until I graduate. Maybe a few after that. Only time will tell.

Just know that I wake up each day thanking God for allowing me to be alive and do what I love. I wake up every day and take the opportunity to be better than I was when I went to sleep.
